Allow the right permissions

Browser calling requires microphone permission for voice and camera permission for video. Check the browser's site permissions if the call controls are present but no media is available.

Start the call

  1. Open the intended private conversation.
  2. Choose voice or video.
  3. Confirm the browser has the required device permission.
  4. Wait for the recipient to accept.

If the call does not connect

Try a second network. If signalling succeeds but the media connection fails, the problem can be NAT traversal rather than authentication. ICE, STUN and TURN are separate parts of the connection process.

During the call

Use mute and camera controls when appropriate. If audio suddenly stops, check whether another application has taken exclusive access to the microphone.

Understand the privacy boundary

WebRTC provides encrypted media transport. Chat256 focuses on protecting the communication itself while giving users direct control over microphone, camera and call participation.
